This is helpful when you want to share a search strategy with others, either by email, Twitter, in a blog, or other places.
- Do a search.
- Click on the HISTORY tab.
- Select the search set number that you wish to save; click on the number itself (on the far left of the window). Do not click on the number for the results for that set (on the far right).
- From the pop-up menu, select the option, "Save in MyNCBI". Follow instructions. (NOTE: You may need to create an account to do this).
- In the upper righthand corner of the window, click on MyNCBI.
- Click on the search strategy you wish to save as a link.
- Click on the DETAILS tab.
- Click on the URL button. NOTE: Sometimes at this point, PubMed breaks the search and the resulting page does not have the desired search. If this happens, you either may not share the search strategy or will have to simplify the search. This is very common with searches created with the Clinical Queries tools.
- In the browser location bar, highlight / select the URL.
- Copy the URL. (PC: Ctrl+C; Mac: Apple/Cmd+C)
- Go to TinyURL.com - http://tinyurl.com
- Paste long URL from PubMed. TinyURL will convert to a short URL.
- Highlight/select resulting TinyURL, then copy.
You may now paste the TinyURL for the search into the email or Twitter post, or wherever you wish to use it.
